An analysis of the structuring of relationships and the interaction characteristics depicted in the sandtray therapy process
Koo Mee-Hyang

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the structuring of relationships and the interaction characteristics depicted in the sandtrays. Participants were one child(male) who diagnosed as ADHD, one adolescent (female), and two adults(females) who were needed counseling with the researcher. The participants ranged in age from 10 to 39 years. Each participant created a total of 10 sandtrays, one per session. Following the completion of all sandtrays, the researcher analyzed each sandtray based on the two essential aspects: (a) the structuring of relationships of the scene and (b) the interaction characteristics portrayed in the sandtray. Results indicated that there were differences in the sandtray pictures according
to the extent of competency, maturity and problems of the participants. Further studies would be needed to characterize the effectiveness of the sandtray therapy on the level of individual, couples, and with families with wide range of age.
